Volunteer formationHow service works in the HUR Legion

The International Legion was created primarily for foreigners who want to fight for Ukraine, and in the Legion you serve as a volunteer. Ukrainians join it too.

01Built for foreigners

The Legion exists to bring foreign volunteers into HUR. Ukrainian citizens also serve in its units.

02Open to most applicants

The Legion accepts most, if not all, foreigners who apply, with little to no resistance.

03Legion boot camp

New legionnaires go through the Legion's own boot camp before joining their unit.

Foreigners can leave after six months of service. This is the same in HUR MO, so it is not a difference between the two.

HUR MO was never designed for foreigners, and service in its units is not volunteer service. Some units do accept foreigners, but only a few get in.

01Not built for foreigners

HUR MO units were built for Ukrainian personnel. Only some units accept foreigners, and those foreigners do not serve as volunteers.

02Hard to get in

Most foreigners are not accepted into HUR MO.

03Internal training

HUR MO runs its own internal version of boot camp, separate from the Legion's.

Foreigners in HUR MO can also leave after six months, just as in the Legion.

Both belong to the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, but they were built for different people and work differently.
